Did you know that studies have found kids who spend more time in nature are generally healthier, happier, and test better in school than those who don’t?   Sign-up your 5 – 11 year-old homeschooled student for a morning or afternoon of discovery!  Staff naturalists have developed hands-on fun and educational lesson plans, using live wildlife and outdoor exploration!  This is a drop-off program.

“Becoming Birders”

Is your new year’s resolution to become a better birder?  Well, you’re in luck!  This month, our homeschoolers will be learning their birding basics, or the skills needed to find and identify our feathery friends.  Did you know that Downy and Hairy woodpeckers look almost exactly the same?  Side by side, you’ll see the Hairy woodpecker is larger.  When not seen together, you should examine their beaks.  A Hairy woodpecker’s beak is about the same length as its head (base of beak to back of head), while the Downy woodpecker’s beak is about 1/3 the length of its head.
