Featured Artist - Jane Dippold
This year’s featured artist is Jane Dippold. Jane is a collage artist and children's illustrator from Coldwater, Ohio. She creates personal collage art, children's illustrations for books and magazines, makes art for product designs, and also paints commissions for public spaces and individuals. Jane is also the owner of Pennyjane Art Co. gallery & studio which features 35 local artists.
Jane has been an artist and children's illustrator for almost 30 years. After graduating from Miami University with a Bachelor of Fine Art, she started her career working as an artist for Gibson Greeting Cards in Cincinnati, Ohio. Since 2010, she has been creating fine art painted paper collages of the Ohio landscape. In her collage work, she paints acrylic paint on tissue paper, newsprint, recycled brown bags, book and poetry pages. She collects these painted colors into a palette to use at the start of a painting. She then tears, and sometimes precisely cuts the paper, and adheres it to canvas in layers. This technique creates a painting that at first, may appear as an oil painting, but on closer inspection, small pieces of paper, written words, newsprint, drawing and poetry become visible and provide additional meaning. She works from photographs that she takes herself while driving the back-roads of western Ohio. She is inspired by the ever changing landscape and weather in Ohio as well as the flat open countryside, bright sunrises and expansive sunsets punctuated by barns, and silos. She wants those who view her work to see and appreciate the beauty around us every day of the year in Ohio.

Corporate sponsors,
We need your support to make our annual fundraiser, The Art of Nature, a success. Business sponsors are the main source of income for the event. Last year we had 38 business sponsors at various levels, each receiving an ad in our event booklet, a listing in our newsletter and a wildlife ambassador-inspired appreciation plaque to display at their business. These are the companies that BNC Members are encouraged to support! If you, or someone you know, owns a business and may be interested in more information please, contact us soon!
Click on the link below if you are interested in becoming a Corporate Sponsor! Thank you for your consideration! We’re looking forward to an amazing event.

Wednesday, September 18 Topic - “Beneath the Bark”
Did you know that emerald ash borer larvae make “s” shapes under the bark of ash trees? Originally from eastern Asia, these insects were accidentally brought to North America in shipping containers and have devastated Ohio’s woods. Come join us this September as we explore “Beneath the Bark” to uncover more non-native insect, plant, and bird species that have started to call Ohio their new home.

“Becoming Birders”
Is your new year’s resolution to become a better birder? Well, you’re in luck! This month, our homeschoolers will be learning their birding basics, or the skills needed to find and identify our feathery friends. Did you know that Downy and Hairy woodpeckers look almost exactly the same? Side by side, you’ll see the Hairy woodpecker is larger. When not seen together, you should examine their beaks. A Hairy woodpecker’s beak is about the same length as its head (base of beak to back of head), while the Downy woodpecker’s beak is about 1/3 the length of its head.

Nest Boxes & Note Cards by Steve & Marian Moeckel
Steve & Marian Moeckel are retired educators who enjoy sharing their lifelong love of nature with others.
Using plans and information provided by the Cornell University Laboratory of Ornithology, Steve works with his hands to create suitable nest boxes and feeders to help people support and enjoy birds in their backyards. Watching a bird deliver a meal of insects gleaned from plants growing in the backyard to nestlings in a nest box in the yard is affirming, entertaining, relaxing, and rewarding (to everyone but the insects).
Marian creates hand-painted and photo note cards to celebrate the beauty of plants and animals and to promote the lost art of letter writing.
